Naivasha is a near-circular freshwater lake bordered by light forests and overlooked by the dramatic, ragged edges of Mount Longonot. Though not officially protected, the lake hosts abundant wildlife—giraffe, hippo, and waterbuck are often seen along the shore. It is also one of Kenya’s most rewarding birding sites, where enthusiasts can record over 100 species before breakfast. Iconic birds include the African fish eagle, great white pelican, and the colourful Fischer’s and yellow-collared lovebirds. Enjoy a scenic boat trip to Crescent Island, the submerged rim of an ancient volcanic crater, home to giraffe, buffalo, and diverse birdlife. In the afternoon, proceed to Hell’s Gate National Park for an adventurous exploration of its towering cliffs, geothermal features, and dramatic landscapes, ideal for walking or gentle cycling among wildlife.
